How do I adjust Sophiie's pauses and interruption timing?

Three sliders control how long Sophiie waits, pauses and lets callers cut in. They live at Settings → Inquiries → Voice & personality, inside the collapsed Advanced speech block — the recommended values shown on screen are 100, 0.4s and 1.0s.

Steps

  1. Go to Settings → Inquiries → Voice & personality and expand Advanced speech at the bottom of the page. (Old Train Sophiie bookmarks redirect to this tab.)
  2. Waiting patience (0–200 in steps of 5, recommended 100) — how long Sophiie waits before stepping in. Higher means she's more patient and interrupts the caller less; lower means she steps in sooner.
  3. Pause before responding (0.1–2.0 seconds in steps of 0.1, recommended 0.4s) — how long Sophiie waits after the caller finishes speaking before she replies, giving callers a moment to gather their thoughts.
  4. Caller interrupt window (0.1–5.0 seconds in steps of 0.1, recommended 1.0s) — how easily a caller can cut in while Sophiie is talking. Longer means fewer interruptions of Sophiie; shorter keeps her talking. Keep this longer than Pause before responding — the dashboard won't stop you setting it shorter, but calls work better when the interrupt window is the larger of the two.
  5. Adjust in small increments and place a test call after each change. Only touch these if you're seeing the same issue across multiple calls — chasing one odd call leads to inconsistent behaviour.
  6. There's no Save button. Each slider writes itself about half a second after you let go, and a "Saved." toast confirms it.

There's also no reset button — jot down the current values before you start experimenting, or bring the sliders back to the recommended values (100 / 0.4s / 1.0s) if you lose track.

The same Advanced speech block holds a few other controls: Processing sounds (what callers hear while Sophiie is thinking) with a volume control beside it, Background ambience, and a Pronunciations list telling Sophiie how to say particular words. None of them changes the timing — and for what the ambience control actually does today, see "Can Sophiie play background sounds during calls?".

Common Questions

Is this the same as Sophiie's personality?

No. Personality is a separate three-option picker higher up the same page. These sliders are pure timing controls — they change when Sophiie speaks, not how she sounds.

What are the recommended settings?

100 for Waiting patience, 0.4 seconds for Pause before responding, and 1.0 seconds for the Caller interrupt window — each slider shows its recommendation on screen. A fresh account can start on slightly lower stored values, so don't be surprised if your sliders don't match the recommendations out of the box.

What if calls feel worse after my changes?

Bring the sliders back to the recommended values and test again with a call. Small steps, one slider at a time, makes it easy to see which change helped.

Can I adjust these for individual calls?

Adjust for patterns across multiple calls, not for one caller — the settings apply to every call, so tuning them to a single odd call usually makes the rest worse.
